We’re fully obsessed with Dubai-based make-up artist Nina Ubhi’s glow-giving looks, as showcased in her glossy YouTube tutorials and glamorous Instagram grid.
So we’re delighted that she’s stepped away from doing Vogue Arabia covers and celebrity makeovers to give us her ultimate 9-step guide to a flawless finish.
It’s no secret that the right base is the key to prepping your skin for whatever look you’re feeling, as well as keeping your make-up looking fresh all day long. Here’s Nina’s lowdown on layering your skincare products to give you a soft, natural glow from within that lasts from dawn to moonlight. See you under the stars.
Step 1: Cleanser
Nina says: “I love Sahara Silk Brightening Cream Exfoliator. Firstly, it’s great for my skin, but also for my lips. It’s not harsh, buffs the dead skin away, and keeps both my skin and lips hydrated.”
No points for guessing that your skincare ritual should begin with a cleanser to remove any dirt or oil that can prevent make-up from staying in place.
Our Oasis Fresh Dissolving Jelly Cleanser is the perfect everyday cleanser to use both morning and night, leaving your skin clean, fresh and bright with a sun-glossed glow. Use on dry skin to remove make-up or damp skin for a full cleanse. Vitamin C and Orange Blossom Water will also help brighten and reawaken your complexion.
For a deeper cleanse, you can use an exfoliator, like Nina’s go-to, Sahara Silk. It contains precious Argan Oil to hydrate, regenerate and return your skin to its natural glow. Use twice a week for 5-10 minutes for a deep cleanse, or for a few minutes each day to lightly buff away impurities and dullness.
Step 2: Toner
An optional next step is a balancing toner, which will tighten your skin and reduce the visibility of pores. However, some drier skin types may find a toner too dehydrating and might wish to skip straight to our next step, which is…
Step 3: Serum
Regardless of your skin type, a serum could be the beauty blessing you’ve been looking for if you’re suffering from a specific issue, although dry, sensitive and oily skins are most likely to feel the love. Dry skins should look for serums containing Vitamin E and Hyaluronic Acid, whereas those who want a brightening effect will benefit from antioxidants like Green Tea Extract.
Step 4: Eye Cream
The skin under our eyes is thinner than the rest of the face, so an eye cream will help to keep the area hydrated and reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles. But be gentle – just use your ring finger to softly tap the serum into the skin until it’s absorbed.
Step 5: Moisturizer
Nina says: “I use Medina Dew Melting Rose Water Cream every morning and when I’m filming several make-up looks for YouTube in a day. It gives me ultimate hydration that sinks right into my skin.”
We dream of skin that’s as supple and hydrated as the ripples of water across a fountain – and a moisturizer is a vital step towards achieving it. Generously apply a moisturizer like Medina Dew to your neck and move towards your hairline with gentle, upwards strokes.
Medina Dew bestows weightless hydration on your skin for up to 72 hours, thanks to its unique blend of Rosewater, Glycerin and Hyaluronic Acid. Together, they draw moisture deep into the skin and leave you with a dewy, petal-blushed glow.
Step 6: Oils
Nina says: “Marrakech Light Illuminating Magic Oil is something I love using on clients who want a dewy finish. It instantly gives a ‘lit from within’ glow that deeply nourishes the skin. I also use it as a base for overly dry skin, and on top of make-up if I want to add a touch of dewiness to a matte base.”
With a myriad of hydrating oils including Argan Oil, Jojoba Oil and Almond Oil, Marrakech Light is a truly luxurious addition to your daily beauty ritual that will leave you feeling moisturised, protected and suffused with sunlight. As it’s so fast absorbing, it won’t leave you with that greasy feeling and is gentle enough to be used on oiler skins – you could even mix a few drops into your moisturiser.
Step 7: SPF
Whether you spend your days basking under the sun’s rays or skipping through snowflakes, a good SPF is essential to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Always apply after the rest of your skincare products and make sure it has plenty of time to sink into the skin before you apply your make-up, both for maximum protection and to avoid your make-up slipping off.
Step 8: Make-Up
Once you’ve savoured your morning skincare ritual and have the perfect base nailed, it’s time to get creative with your make-up. Although there are lots of different theories about what order you should apply your make-up, we believe there are no rules – as long as you’ve followed the steps above, your skin will be ready to reflect however you want to look and feel. And when in doubt, check Nina’s tutorials for some inspiration!
Step 9: Face Mist
Nina says: “Oasis Veil Reviving Glow Mist is the only mist I’ve used that can be reapplied over and over without ruining my make-up. It’s refreshing, hydrating, and makes my skin smell amazing.”
Finally, if you want to give yourself an instant boost of radiance throughout the day, slip a face mist in your handbag and carry it “at all times” as Nina does. Oasis Veil is a lightweight blend of Vitamin C, hydrating Hyaluronic Acid and antioxidants, which can be applied straight after make-up as a setting spray or used throughout the day to rejuvenate skin. Just glow and go.
